You Could Be Owed Compensation

Many people don’t realize that filing an individual claim is usually a better move than joining a class-action lawsuit. When you file an individual claim, your chance of securing more compensation is higher than what you would get from group action. Hernia mesh cases are being settled right now, and people like you are getting the full and fair compensation they are owed. Some recent settlements include:

$57 Million – Johnson & Johnson – 2017 – Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas

·      A woman secured $57 million in damages after she had to undergo three surgeries to remove mesh that caused severe injuries like a damaged urethra, pelvic pain, and bladder spasms.

·      According to a report in The Guardian in September 2017, the device was released for use before clinical trials were performed, and was still marketed to the public despite a high rate of failure.

$15 Million – Johnson & Johnson – 2017 – Superior Court of New Jersey Law Division

What is Hernia Mesh?

Mesh devices are alternatives for stitches. Hernia mesh can be used to repair incisional, ventral, and inguinal hernias. When the stomach muscles cannot handle surgery or stitches, a mesh can be used to hold everything in place by being placed between the intestines and the stomach lining.

The Dangers of Hernia Mesh

Unfortunately, the materials used in hernia mesh are not safe for use inside the body. The material used in the memory recoil ring, polypropylene plastic, can break under stress. The consequences of this error can be extreme, including:

·      Chronic pain

·      Internal bleeding

·      Infection

·      Bowel obstruction

·      Internal organ puncture

Victims may have to endure additional surgery to correct these side effects and remove the device. Worse, according to some recent studies, the manufacturers of these devices either knew or should have known about these risks.

Do I Have a Hernia Mesh Claim?

Hernia claims are relatively common, as many doctors used them without being made aware of the risks. The best way to discover whether or not you have a valid hernia mesh claim is to contact a lawyer from ‘Maggio Thompson. If one of the following manufacturers made your device, you might have a claim:

·      Atrium

·      Bard/Davol

·      Covidien (Tyco)

·      Ethicon

·      Johnson and Johnson

An attorney can look into your particular case to determine whether you may be owed compensation from one of these manufacturers. Time is of the essence in these cases, so do not hesitate to contact Maggio Thompson to discuss your legal options.
