Common Injuries from Dog Bites
Dog bites can lead to a range of injuries, from minor wounds to extreme trauma. Common injuries include the following:
- Puncture Wounds and Lacerations: Deep cuts may require surgical intervention, leaving visible scars on the body, face, or neck.
- Infections: Bacterial infections that are difficult to resolve can develop after a dog bite.
- Scarring and Disfigurement: Permanent damage to the skin and soft tissue could require reconstructive surgery to attempt to restore a natural appearance to damaged skin, tissue, and muscle.
- Nerve Damage: Dog bites can damage nerves, causing loss of sensation or function.
- Emotional Trauma: Victims, including children and adults, may develop PTSD, fear of dogs, or other emotional problems.
- Broken Bones: Aggressive, vicious dogs can bite a person so seriously that bones are fractured.
- Fatal Injuries: Some dog bite cases involve injuries so severe that the victim can’t survive and passes away.
