Exactech Recalls

In June 2021, Exactech announced a recall of nearly 100,000 hip devices that were manufactured with Exactech Connexion GLX Liners. Less than a year later, in February 2022, the company once again recalled more of its products. This time, the recall targeted knee and ankle replacement devices. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) got involved and classified the recall as Class II importance.

Specifically, Exactech noted that “all knee and ankle arthroplasty polyethylene inserts packaged in non-conforming bags” could become problematic and potentially dangerous to the patient. The company reported that any such hip, ankle, or knee replacement devices made since 2004 could become defective if they were not packaged in a non-conforming vacuum bag. This defect could cause the medical devices to corrode as the material was oxidized.
